Love the floating “hang” in the picture gallery. When the Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi designed the Museu de Arte de São Paulo (MASP), which opened in 1968, she did not just make the building float over the city’s bustling Paulista Avenue – she made the collection float too. Artworks were suspended on ‘glass easels’, held upright by blocks of concrete. But now, two decades after those easels were removed, and the museum’s largest space divided up and repurposed for temporary exhibitions, the original display of the permanent collection has been restored.

ROME FILM FEST Rebibbia prison, another venue of the Rome Film Fest: announcing the programme for the public and the inmates

The Auditorium at the Rebibbia Prison welcomes the Rome Film Fest. From October 16^th to October 20^th, the Rome Film Fest in Rebibbia will host four events open to inmates and outsiders: a real experiment in integration through film and video-theater.

 

On Sunday, October 16^th at 4:30pm, Sing Street by Stewart Hendler will be screened for prisoners and their families, in collaboration with the parallel and independent sidebar Alice nella Città; on October 17^th Sole cuore amore by Daniele Vicari (Official Selection) will screen at 4:30pm and on October 18^th, at 8:30pm the Rebibbia Auditorium will present the film Inferno by Ron Howard. On October 17^th and 18^th the events in the programme will be open to the public.

 

On October 20^th, for the first time an event will be livestreamed from a prison: with six cameras and directed live at the Auditorium of Rebibbia, Dalla città dolente will be shown in full-HD at the MAXXI Auditorium. The twenty prisoners, protagonists of the show directed by Fabio Cavalli, welcome the audiences of the city of Rome to join them in Rebibbia. Every year thousands of people, fourteen years of age and older, crowd the hall to watch the shows. At the MAXXI the evening will be hosted by actor and director Massimo Ghini, and by actress, director and writer Francesca D’Aloja, along with Laura Andreini Salerno, artistic director of the center “Enrico Maria Salerno”, and Mario Sesti, artistic coordinator of the Rome Film Fest’s Selection Committee. After the event, there will be a special exchange of livestreamed greetings between the inmates and the audience at the MAXXI.

 

The Rome Film Fest in Rebibbia will take place thanks to the collaboration between the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, the Department of Penitentiary Administration and the Department of Philosophy, Communication and Drama of the University of Roma Tre. The event is produced by La Ribalta – Centro Studi Enrico Maria Salerno, which for the past fifteen years has shared and created high-profile theatrical and cinematic works with the inmates of the Roman prison: from Cesare deve morire by the Taviani brothers to the group’s most recent hit Naufragio con spettatore, once again starring Cavalli’s actor- inmates; the latter film won a Special Jury Mention MigrArti at the Venice Film Festival.
